We had a great day to test out our potential collaboration with Repair Kopitiam at Our Tampines Hub yesterday! This underscores our mission to build a community that embraces a zero e-waste lifestyle.

In line with our overarching mission, we recognize the pivotal role of extending the lifespan of laptops, mobiles, and tablets. This notion is further substantiated by findings from the European Climate Foundation (ECF)’s EEB report, which suggests that a laptop’s optimal lifetime for mitigating Global Warming Potential spans an impressive 44 years.

Extending the lifespan of these devices not only serves to avoid carbon emissions but also presents a compelling case from an environmental standpoint. The ECF report highlights that even with a 10% increase in energy efficiency, the replacement of an older laptop is only justifiable after an extensive timeframe of 33 to 89 years.

Considering the prevailing market lifespan of laptops, averaging around 4.5 years, and the potential extension of 1.5 years through simple maintenance measures, it becomes evident that prioritizing such actions aligns both with economic prudence and environmental stewardship.
Looking ahead, we envision our collaboration with Repair Kopitiam as a catalyst for raising awareness on the importance of sustainable tech practices. Leveraging the efforts of volunteers, we aim to disseminate knowledge about the significance of device maintenance.
