Ching Hwee Tan

Zero e-Waste Ambassador, Sustainability Advocate, Extender of IT Device Lifespan

At the helm of myhalo is Tan Ching Hwee, a tech impresario with over a decade of experience in the trading of pre-owned devices and their repairs.

Spurred on by his passion to reduce the impacts of e-waste on our environment,  Ching Hwee has established myhalo CircularXchange, a platform aimed at reducing consumer e-waste through the extension of the lifespan and the delay of the obsolescence of mobile and digital device, which includes repairing, reusing, recycling, upcycling and proper discarding of mobile phones, tablets and laptops.

He firmly believes that sustainability and change will have to be a concerted effort from the business community and consumers at large, and through an omnichannel approach that includes advocating and education.

The first phone Ching Hwee ever repaired was his own, as a university freshman, he got to know a fellow student who would later become his wife. To communicate with her, he needed a mobile phone; a luxurious commodity in the early 2000s. To make the most of this purchase, he began independently replacing parts in his mobile phone to avoid issues such as overheating.

Upon discovering this knack for fixing gadgets, it was not long before he started dabbling into PCs and laptops. From there he began repairing other students’ devices from his dorm room, and soon enough PC Dreams was born. Since its founding, responsibility and accountability have always been at the heart of PC Dreams. We take integrity towards our customers seriously and never take advantage or profit from their ignorance. With the philosophy of ‘Pricing with our conscience’, we commit to fair and consistent valuations for all devices

In 2014, PC Dreams’ warehouse was ravaged by a fire, which saw almost all of their inventory damaged. This unfortunate event left Ching Hwee in debt but led him to rethink his purpose and the legacy he would like to leave behind.

With over 54 million metric tons of e-waste generated globally every year, Ching Hwee felt the urgent need to confront and find solutions.  Leveraging on his business acumen, experience, and network built over the years, Ching Hwee is now ready and fully committed to the cause.

myhalo will be the catalyst and the platform to build a community that embraces a zero e-waste lifestyle, to considerably impact society and the environment.
